Job Overview

The Laboratory Technician plays a crucial role in supporting various processes within the mining sector. Reporting directly to the Chemist, this position is essential for generating routine assay data that aids in exploration, mining, leaching, and cathode production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Environmental Compliance: Assist in ensuring that all laboratory operations adhere to environmental regulations.
  • Multitasking: Effectively manage multiple tasks in a dynamic and fast-paced laboratory setting.
  • Analytical Planning: Organize and oversee analytical tasks to optimize resource use with minimal supervision.
  • Data Management: Efficiently handle and report laboratory data.
  • Sample Preparation: Organize, weigh, digest, dilute, and assay samples for total copper analysis as required.
  • Resource Identification: Identify necessary parts, materials, and equipment to maintain uninterrupted laboratory operations.
  • Assistance with Analysis: Support the analysis of samples for sequential acid soluble and cyanide soluble copper determination as directed.
  • Laboratory Maintenance: Carry out routine cleanup and reagent preparation as needed.
  • Training Compliance: Maintain up-to-date training in environmental and health/safety protocols.
  • Safety Procedures: Ensure compliance with all relevant safety requirements and assist in reviewing and updating laboratory safety protocols.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with mining, leaching, solvent extraction, and electrowinning processes is highly beneficial.
  • Laboratory Skills: Proficiency in routine laboratory techniques and equipment used for blast hole analysis and aqueous sample analyses is preferred.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for effective interaction with colleagues and management.
  • Computer Proficiency: Strong computer skills are required.
  • Driver's License: A valid driver's license is necessary.
Education and Experience
  • Educational Background: An AA Degree in Chemistry or Metallurgy, or a high school diploma with a minimum of one year of experience in a mining or production laboratory.
  • Technical Experience: Experience with general laboratory techniques, MS Office, and data entry is required.
