Tuesday – Saturday:

POSITION SUMMARY
The Microbiology Laboratory Specialist is responsible for preparing samples for microbiological and analytical evaluations of food products, ingredients, and environmental samples. This role involves utilizing approved microbiological techniques and methodologies in the testing process.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare samples for testing of indicator organisms, pathogens, and various chemistries.
- Implement aseptic techniques consistently throughout daily tasks.
- Maintain necessary media and reagents for routine microbiological testing.
- Monitor inventory and report on supplies and materials required for testing.
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance, including cleaning, sanitizing, and waste disposal.
- Perform quality control checks by monitoring incubator temperatures, inoculating control organisms, and running media controls.
- Independently execute assigned processes and procedures in line with established policies and customer specifications.
- Ensure laboratory conditions are maintained, including equipment, supplies, quality assurance programs, and accurate record-keeping.
- Carry out all tasks in a safe, hygienic, and efficient manner.
- Communicate information clearly and promptly.
- Assist in managing priorities and schedules to achieve both individual and team objectives.
- Uphold safety standards for oneself and colleagues in the laboratory environment.
- Complete all required training programs.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma or GED.
- Associate degree in Life Science or two years of relevant laboratory experience preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of food testing laboratory concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Willingness to travel is preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and handle laboratory equipment.
- Potential exposure to various odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and microbiological agents.
- Noise levels may vary from quiet to loud.
- Temperature fluctuations from hot to cold may occur.
- Engage in interactive and fast-paced team-oriented tasks.
- Occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to perceive color and depth accurately.
