Job Summary

CTR Group is seeking a skilled Machinist Specialist to join our team in the Newport News area. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of machinery and equipment in a shipyard environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assure that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished, no work will be accomplished without a WAF posted at location of repairs.
  • Assure that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished (Example: special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work-related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc.).
  • Assure that you are trained or qualified for the work you are assigned to do (Example: JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical/mechanical repairs, etc.).
  • Assure that personnel are working as safely and as productively as possible always maintaining quality control.
  • Assure that a 30-minute cool down period has been accomplished in hot work areas.
  • Assure that the job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure.
  • Complete repairs or installation(s) as assigned with no supervision.
Requirements
  • 3-5 years directly related experience in a Shipyard Environment
  • Able to read and use tech manuals and blueprints and specification items.
  • Able to use and understand precision measuring instruments.
  • Climb on and around ships and walk to other yard areas and requires extended periods of standing and walking (75%).
  • Inspections and work may require climbing ladders, working at heights, walking on scaffolding and observing co-workers using tools and equipment.
  • Lifting/carrying tools and parts weighing up to 50 lbs. on frequent basis.
  • Standing, bending, sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling, crouching, kneeling, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, eye/hand/foot coordination, seeing, hearing required.
  • Selecting appropriate tools for jobs, as per trade classification.
  • Works in tight, confined workspaces on board ship and is exposed to varied temperatures, wind, wet and humid conditions, fumes, odors and dust, vibrations from ship and hand tools.
