Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Stormont Vail Health. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting our laboratory team by receiving and processing specimens, confirming physician orders, and preparing specimens for testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and process specimens, ensuring accurate and timely processing
  • Confirm physician orders and obtain necessary information for testing
  • Prepare specimens for testing, including labeling and packaging
  • Act as a support person for internal and external customers, providing technical support and answering questions
  • Maintain a positive relationship with outreach clients and effectively interact with phlebotomy and technical staff
  • Perform waived testing and maintain quality results by following department procedures and testing schedule
  • Evaluate specimens for proper type and adequate volume, and accurately match orders and specimens
  • Enter orders for laboratory tests into the electronic health record and laboratory information system
  • Correctly match patient labels and specimens, and understand the importance of proper specimen identification
  • Call or fax results along with normal ranges to internal and external customers as requested
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 1 year phlebotomy or laboratory experience preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports, and speak effectively before groups
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, and compute rate, ratio, and percent
  • Word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database software skills
Working Conditions

This position is not patient-facing and requires a quiet and distraction-free workspace. The ideal candidate will have stable access to electricity and a minimum of 25mb upload and internet speed.
