About the Role:
Take a pivotal role in shaping global strategies and overseeing daily intellectual property initiatives related to biologics and gene therapy during preclinical and clinical development, as well as commercial phase programs.Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):
- Deliver legal counsel to designated business partners on a wide array of intellectual property matters.
- Identify inventions, draft patents, and manage prosecution efforts pertaining to biologics and gene therapy.
- Conduct strategic IP due diligence, including evaluating the patent portfolios of competitors and potential collaborators.
- Recognize opportunities to enhance the Company's IP standing and collaborate with various discovery, development, and business teams.
- Engage and communicate with collaborators and external strategic partners to formulate a comprehensive global IP strategy.
- Review and negotiate licensing agreements and IP provisions in other contracts.
- Support preparations for biosimilars and provide assistance in patent litigation matters.
- Oversee the utilization of external legal counsel on a global scale.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- A PhD in genetics, immunology, biochemistry, virology, or a related field is preferred.
- A Juris Doctorate (JD) and admission to practice in California is preferred, along with over 10 years of substantial experience in both in-house and law firm settings focused on patent prosecution and lifecycle management related to biologics and gene therapy.
- Registration to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office is required, with experience in patent application preparation and prosecution in both U.S. and international jurisdictions covering biologics and/or gene therapy inventions being essential.
- A comprehensive range of patent-related legal expertise is necessary, including patent preparation, both U.S. and foreign prosecution, IP due diligence, and strategic advisory. Experience in drafting and prosecuting patents for therapeutic antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates, and related technologies is preferred.
- Proficiency in IP litigation and knowledge of regulatory affairs concerning market exclusivity is essential.
- Ability to independently manage legal matters, oversee the use of external legal counsel, and collaborate effectively with Neurocrine personnel.
- Capacity to establish ambitious deadlines, manage multiple complex legal issues, and ensure project completion.
- Recognized as an external authority in a strategic job function.
- Requires extensive expertise in advanced theories and techniques within a strategic job function.
