Job Summary:

The Assistant Teacher will play a vital role in maintaining a collaborative and harmonious environment within our Head Start Program setting, providing coverage for teachers in the classroom and supporting the implementation of classroom curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Classroom and Curriculum: Assume the duties and responsibilities of the Teacher when they are away from the classroom, support the implementation of classroom curriculum, and document individualizations for primary teachers to upload in Teaching Strategies Gold.
  • Family Engagement: Support parent engagement and school readiness goals and activities to foster strong home-school connections as assigned by the Education Supervisor/Case Management Supervisor.
  • Programmatic: Maintain confidentiality and a high level of professionalism at all times, provide classroom coverage for vacations, preparation/planning, and/or call-outs, and uphold the goals, mission, and values of the GLCAC and Head Start programs.
Requirements:
  • Associate or Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred, along with one to five years of teaching experience.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED, be in the process of achieving a Child Development Associate (CDA) or preferred degree within the first year of employment, and hold an EEC Teacher Preschool certificate through the Department of Early Education and Care or be in the process.
  • Desire to work with low-income, culturally diverse, and at-risk families and individuals, with experience preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced, growing, and changing environment, with the ability to follow instructions and perform duties with minimal supervision.
  • Must have a positive relationship with parents, children, and co-workers, with punctuality and reliability required.
  • Ability to read, write, and express oneself in English is required, with bilingual (English/Spanish) desirable.
  • CPR and First Aid certificate preferred or ability to maintain CPR/FA within 30 days of hire, along with documented proof of a current physical exam, negative TB test, and proof of MMR immunity.
  • Must have a suitable CORI, SORI, and DCF background check on file prior to employment, with a suitable fingerprint check completed within the first 30 days of employment.
