Job Summary

The Department of Transportation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transportation Engineer to serve as the Office Chief of Safety Systems and Devices. This is a critical role that requires a deep understanding of transportation engineering principles and practices, as well as excellent leadership and management skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the development and implementation of safety policies and guidelines for the Department of Transportation.
  • Lead a team of engineers and technicians in the design, development, and maintenance of safety systems and devices.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and address safety concerns and issues.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve safety performance and reduce the risk of accidents and injuries.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to other departments and agencies on safety-related matters.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation engineering, with a focus on safety systems and devices.
  • Proven track record of leadership and management experience, with a focus on safety and risk management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and develop effective solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in California.
  • Experience with safety management systems and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Knowledge of transportation engineering principles and practices, including traffic safety and highway design.
