Joyous Care Services is on the lookout for passionate and dynamic individuals to become part of our team as Behavioral Support Specialists. This position plays a vital role in delivering care and assistance to young individuals with significant behavioral challenges, including those with intellectual, developmental, and mental health concerns. If you possess a caring nature, dependability, and a drive to positively impact the lives of youth, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.
Primary Responsibilities:

This includes responding to incidents of physical aggression (such as hitting, kicking, or throwing objects) and verbal aggression (including shouting, threats, or abusive language). Be prepared to address elopement attempts, where youth may attempt to leave the facility without authorization, and manage the energetic and active nature typical of this demographic.

The role necessitates constant vigilance to maintain safety during these activities, given the potential for impulsive or aggressive behavior.
- Home Environment Management: Support clients in keeping a clean, safe, and organized living space. This includes addressing any potential damage or disruption caused by behavioral incidents.
- Effective Communication: Foster positive and effective communication with youth, colleagues, administration, and interdisciplinary teams. Be ready to document and report incidents of aggression and other behavioral challenges accurately and promptly.
- Record Keeping: Complete and maintain comprehensive documentation as mandated by the client's program and state licensing requirements. This includes detailed accounts of behavioral incidents, interventions, and progress.
- Crisis Intervention: Assist in preventing and managing challenging situations, including behavioral escalations and safety concerns. Utilize de-escalation techniques and therapeutic strategies to address and diffuse aggressive or unsafe behavior.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience: A High School Diploma is required. A minimum of three years of direct care experience working with adolescents or adults with disabilities, mental health needs, and significant behavioral challenges, including experience managing aggressive and challenging behaviors.
- Age Requirement: Candidates must be 21 years of age or older.
- Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities; capacity to document information clearly and accurately; proficient typing skills. Ability to handle stressful and potentially unsafe situations calmly and effectively.
- Physical Requirements: Capability to engage in high levels of physical activity, including biking, running, and hiking for extended periods; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be physically capable of managing and responding to aggressive behavior if necessary.
- Driving: A valid Driver's License and reliable transportation are required.
- Attitude: Maintain a positive and uplifting demeanor to contribute to the mission of Joyous Care Services.
