About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to lead our Advanced Propulsion team in the development of the next generation fast attack submarine, SSN(X). As a key member of our team, you will provide technical leadership and expertise in the design and development of the main propulsion unit, including reduction gear design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership to the engineering team supporting the development of the main propulsion unit
  • Responsible for the entire component development process, including concept design, specification and requirements development, evaluating and selecting suppliers, component production, test and validation, and all technical problem resolutions
  • Have a strong understanding of gear design and system integration
  • Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems, including instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • 9 years of relevant exempt experience, or Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience, or Ph.D. and 4 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive technical expertise with turbine-powered main reduction gears (or sub-components) and full knowledge of auxiliary support systems encompassing design, manufacture, and test
  • Extremely proficient in technical writing
  • Very strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Systems engineering or engineering project management background
