Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Associate to join our team at Spaulding Hospital-Boston & Cambridge (SRN, SRH, SHC). As a key member of our interdisciplinary healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out patient care plans as directed by registered nurses.
  • Provide patient physical care, including bed baths, toileting, grooming, and changing bed linen, in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Assist with patient general care, such as positioning, lifting, and turning, and using adaptive and transfer equipment as needed.
  • Perform patient monitoring activities, including vital signs and blood glucose checks, in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Prepare patients for meals and assist with meeting their needs as required.
  • Perform regular patient rounds and respond promptly to call lights to meet patients' needs.
  • Document patient care in a timely and accurate manner, adhering to established standards.
  • Organize patient room clutter to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Obtain and label specimens in accordance with established procedures.
  • Provide mentoring and teaching to new nursing assistants to meet performance expectations.
  • Complete additional department, organization, or network activities as required.
Qualifications and Experience
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required, unless candidate holds a nursing assistant certification.
  • Recent experience and/or training in clinical patient care.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Enrollment in a nursing, pre-med, or physician assistant undergraduate program, with a minimum of one semester of completed patient care rotations at the time of hire.
  • Possession of a valid license, certification, or enrollment as a student in a nursing assistant, medical assistant, mental health technician, or EMT-accredited program at the time of hire.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
  • Basic skills in math and computer science.
  • Ability to perform, modify, and record all physical therapy skills with relevance to appropriate thoroughness and sequencing.
  • Healthcare Provider CPR certification required.
  • Knowledge of DPH/OEMS regulations.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role requires working in a fast-paced healthcare environment with frequent interactions with patients, families, and healthcare professionals. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, be self-directed, and contribute as a member of a team. The physical demands of this role include standing, walking, sitting, and using hands requiring fine motor skills and sense of touch. The ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects up to 100 pounds is also required.
