Overview: The City of Norfolk's Department of Libraries is actively seeking a dedicated Part-Time Library Associate I. This role is essential in supporting various library functions, including circulation processes, patron registration, and interlibrary loan coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional customer service at the public service desk, assisting patrons with inquiries related to library and community services.
- Effectively communicate information and directions to patrons, both verbally and in writing.
- Assist patrons with technology, including computers, library catalog systems, and various office equipment.
- Provide resource retrieval assistance and recommend reading materials tailored to patron interests.
- Support library programs and events, contributing to outreach initiatives as needed.
- Perform circulation duties, including checking materials in and out, managing reservations, and collecting fees.
- Handle administrative tasks such as preparing reports, ordering supplies, and managing correspondence.
- Participate in program preparation and facilitation, ensuring smooth operations during events.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, along with at least one year of experience in library or related services. Proficiency in computer usage is required.
Work Schedule: This position requires a commitment of 20 hours per week, including evenings and weekends.
