Job Description

Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is seeking an experienced Physician Advisor to join its team. As a leading healthcare provider in the region, we offer a dynamic and challenging environment for medical professionals.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in acute hospital care, with expertise in utilization management, case management, care coordination, and documentation initiatives. A minimum of 5 years of experience in these areas is required, along with leadership experience and knowledge of federal, state, and payor regulatory requirements.

We are looking for a Physician Advisor who can provide administrative support and leadership to the utilization and resource management areas of Integrated Case Management. The successful candidate will also participate in daily multi-disciplinary rounds, collaborate with Medical Staff, advanced practice practitioners, and house staff to determine level of care and medical necessity, and identify opportunities for best practice care management.

A small active clinical practice in the hospital setting is desired, and the ability to maintain a positive rapport with hospital and departmental leadership, case management staff, and physicians is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide physician administrative support and leadership to the utilization and resource management areas of Integrated Case Management
  • Review cases for medical necessity and participate in daily multi-disciplinary rounds
  • Collaborate with Medical Staff, advanced practice practitioners, and house staff to determine level of care and medical necessity
  • Identify opportunities for best practice care management and improve patient outcomes
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and payor regulatory requirements

Requirements:

  • MD or DO from an accredited school of medicine
  • Current Board Certification in a primary specialty
  • Active Florida medical license or meet qualifications to obtain a Florida license
  • Qualified as a provider under Medicare and Medicaid
  • Current medical staff privileges or active hospital experience in the last 2 years
  • A minimum of 5 years of acute hospital care experience with exposure to utilization management, case management, care coordination, and documentation initiatives
  • A minimum of 1 year of leadership experience
