Job Title: Electrical Engineer IV

Join Austal USA as an Electrical Engineer IV and take on a challenging role that requires expertise in electrical systems design, development, and implementation. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for providing expert judgement and analysis for complex engineering projects, troubleshooting and solving technical issues, and communicating effectively with management and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and implement electrical systems and products, including power distribution, motor controllers, and communication systems.
  • Provide expert analysis and judgement for complex engineering projects, including system calculations, specification trace packages, and detailed engineering reports.
  • Troubleshoot and solve technical issues in a timely manner, communicating expertly researched resolutions to management.
  • Lead and direct the work of Engineers I, II, III, Designers, and Draftspersons, determining technical adequacy of drawings and calculations.
  • Establish relationships with other engineers, departments, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure projects are completed on time and to specifications.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
  • 8+ years of relevant engineering experience in the shipbuilding industry, or 12+ years of engineering experience.
  • Expert knowledge of power distribution, motor controllers, Variable Frequency Drives, lighting systems, and communication systems.
  • Experience developing and managing an Electric Plant Load Analysis, Short Circuit Analysis, Voltage Drop, and Breaker Coordination Studies.
  • Strong working knowledge of IEEE standards, ABS rules, IEC standards, SOLAS, Military Specifications, and NEC.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance may be required if deemed necessary in the scope of your position responsibilities.
  • 18 years of age or older at time of application.
  • Able to provide proof of US Person Status.
  • No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date.
  • No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date.
  • Willing to submit to a drug screen.
  • Willing to submit to a background check.

The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles at or below the PEL, toxic or caustic chemicals, and heat and cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud, + 90 dB.
