Job Overview

Toledo Clinic's Gastroenterology Department is looking for a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our team in a full-time capacity. This role involves a blend of clinical and administrative responsibilities within a medical office setting. Candidates should possess an MA diploma or certificate and hold or be eligible to obtain the RMA/CMA/CCMA/PCPT-A credential within 60 days of employment. The work schedule is Monday through Thursday from 8 AM to 5 PM, with no weekend or holiday shifts.

General Summary:

The Medical Assistant will support physicians in patient care, prepare patients for examinations, and carry out various clerical tasks.

This position operates under the guidance of the Office Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Essential Duties include:

  1. Assisting physicians with patient treatments, including minor procedures such as suture and staple removal.
  2. Performing clerical tasks, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and managing patient records.
  3. Escorting patients to examination rooms.
  4. Preparing examination rooms for patient visits.
  5. Gathering patient information, including medical histories and vital signs.
  6. Sterilizing and organizing medical instruments.
  7. Calling in prescription refills as directed by the physician.
  8. Ordering and maintaining medical supplies and equipment.
  9. Following up on laboratory results and imaging studies.
  10. Administering injections as required.
  11. Completing additional tasks as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Required:

Strong interpersonal skills are essential.

Consistent punctuality and professionalism in appearance and conduct.

Proactive in seeking additional tasks and assisting colleagues as necessary.

Ability to adapt to evolving roles and responsibilities.

Must be credentialed as a Medical Assistant (CMA, CCMA, RMA, PCT/A).

Compliance with the Medicare Exclusion List.

Adherence to clinic policies and procedures is mandatory.

Education:

A Medical Assisting degree or diploma from an accredited institution is required.

Preferred:

Experience in clinical medical assisting is preferred.
