Job Overview

In this role, you will play a crucial part in the assembly of Electrical Control Panels, focusing on the interpretation of control panel layouts and electrical schematics. Your responsibilities will include the layout and physical installation of components onto back panels, wiring all elements, and integrating control panels into enclosures with minimal supervision. All tasks must adhere to company policies and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize your expertise in layout design and wiring to mentor junior panel builders, ensuring effective communication with colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate red line drawings to document necessary changes during the fabrication process.
  • Collaborate with the Team Leader or supervisor to communicate red line modifications for approval before finalization.
  • Interpret technical drawings to determine accurate wiring and cable routing.
  • Execute point-to-point wiring from component to component, ensuring proper terminations.
  • Label wires at connection points for clarity and organization.
  • Successfully terminate various types of copper connectors, selecting appropriate tools for specific tasks.
  • Employ provided schematics to organize wireways, din rails, and components on back panels and enclosures.
  • Route and bundle wires systematically to comply with company and UL standards.
  • Conduct point-to-point wiring for a variety of devices, including relays, controls, PLCs, I/O Modules, VFDs, interfaces, and instrumentation.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of electrical circuitry, including power distribution, motor controls, and relay logic.
  • Exhibit knowledge of electrical components, such as PLCs, VFDs, transformers, and circuit breakers.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required.
  • Adhere to all company safety standards and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Work Environment:

This position is based in a panel shop facility, which may vary in climate control based on the specific work location.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.

Must be capable of:

  • Lifting up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 70 pounds occasionally.
  • Standing for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, and kneeling.
  • Climbing ladders as necessary.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient in reading technical drawings for accurate wiring and cable routing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Basic experience with multi-meter testing, hand and power tools, and blueprint reading.
  • Competent in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems.

Education and Experience:

  • A two-year Electrical Engineering technical degree, military equivalent, or related experience is preferred.
  • 2-3 years of hands-on experience in panel production is preferred.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
