We are currently seeking a meticulous and reliable Senior Construction Inspector III to enhance our Infrastructure team. This role involves overseeing and inspecting construction activities to ensure adherence to project specifications, approved drawings, and relevant documentation. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Generating and submitting precise, clear, and comprehensive inspection and testing reports daily, in line with established quality standards.
- Reviewing project plans, specifications, and shop drawings prior to executing assigned tasks.
- Conducting, supervising, and reporting on compliance tests and coordinating field tests on materials and completed work, utilizing standard methods and calibrated testing equipment.
- Training and guiding less experienced staff while prioritizing work tasks effectively.
- Assisting in the planning and coordination of inspection operations.
- Engaging with contractors and project leaders on-site to discuss and coordinate testing and inspection of construction materials and processes.
- Evaluating material tests and completed work to ensure compliance with established standards.
- Ensuring proper sampling and testing procedures are followed to maintain representative distribution.
- Safeguarding the proper use, storage, and maintenance of all documentation and tools, including company vehicles.
- Fostering effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborating closely with supervisors to set priorities, deadlines, and provide updates on task progress.
- Adhering to and participating in the Raba Kistner Health & Safety and Behavior-Based Safety Programs, exemplifying our safety standards.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- A minimum of 25 years of experience in roadway and related facilities construction inspection or NICET Level IV certification in Transportation Engineering Technology (Highway Construction) is preferred.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to travel to project sites while navigating rough terrain are essential.
Related experience or education may be considered to substitute for on-the-job experience. Candidates must possess strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to follow both verbal and written instructions. Proficiency in basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometric functions is required. Completion of a radiation safety course for using nuclear gauges and relevant technician training and certification programs is preferred, with the understanding that successful candidates may need to pursue these certifications post-employment. Comprehensive knowledge of highway construction plans, inspection procedures, and material testing methods is essential. Candidates should also be familiar with the State-specific Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices and construction project document auditing techniques. The ability to use hand tools such as sledgehammers, shovels, and picks is necessary.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to perform essential functions, including sitting, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and talking. Regular lifting and moving of up to 70 pounds may be required. Vision capabilities must include close, far, color, peripheral, focus, and depth vision. Travel to project sites may involve navigating uneven terrain, and the work environment may expose employees to moderate to loud noise levels.
Work Environment
Employees may encounter heavy equipment, hazardous chemicals, noise, dust, fumes, and other construction-related elements, necessitating adherence to safety protocols and the use of appropriate protective equipment. Flexibility to work irregular hours may be required based on client needs, including potential out-of-town travel.
