Position Summary:
The Referral Testing Services department at UNC McLendon Laboratories is accepting applications for a Medical Technologist role. The successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination and preparation of laboratory specimens for external testing. Training will encompass familiarization with various referral laboratory systems, medical laboratory billing processes, and external result reporting. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential for this position.
Work Hours: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with a weekend rotation of one Saturday every four weeks.
Key Responsibilities:- Investigate issues related to equipment, test results, specimens, and workflow.
- Participate in teams or undertake special projects and assignments.
- Provide training for Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents, as well as onboarding new staff.
- Conduct quality control and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Perform routine and specialized testing procedures, including chemical, microscopic, and bacteriological tests, while observing tests and reactions to provide accurate data.
- Prepare specimens and reagents as required.
- Report results to healthcare providers and consult with them regarding test outcomes.
- Review test results to ensure accuracy and timely correction of any errors.
Education Requirements: A Bachelor's of Science degree is required. Candidates must meet eligibility criteria upon hire to sit for the MT exam within 12 months.
Licensure/Certification Requirements: Candidates must obtain MLS/MT (ASCP), MT (NCA), or MT (AMT) certification within 12 months of hire.
Professional Experience Requirements: No prior experience is necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Candidates should possess strong analytical and technical skills.
