Job Summary:

Full-time faculty members are professional educators responsible for fulfilling the institution's mission, vision, values, strategic plan, and educational philosophy, with the primary goal of delivering a high-quality education to all students. Faculty members are categorized into ranks: Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. They are subject to Board policies, including academic freedom, and are accountable for their responsibilities. Faculty members maintain a vital relationship with students as leaders, educators, advisors, mentors, and facilitators of learning. Job descriptions for faculty roles are specified for Full-Time Teaching Faculty, Adjunct Teaching Faculty, Librarian Faculty, and Counselor Faculty, with separate descriptions for Faculty Chairpersons.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in a relevant subject area within the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE) curriculum or a Bachelor's degree in Mortuary Science. A Master's degree in the discipline must be obtained within five years of initial appointment.
  • Proof of graduation from an ABFSE accredited program.
  • Current licensure by the Texas Funeral Service Commission (TFSC) as both a funeral director and embalmer, or meet the TFSC's requirements for immediate reciprocation of both licenses.
  • A minimum of three years of continuous full-time employment in the funeral industry, including regular embalming and preparation room experience.
  • A Master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited university in the teaching discipline.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Five years of continuous full-time employment with embalming and preparation room experience.
  • Experience in post-secondary teaching.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver license and be insurable through the organization's insurers.
