Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Review patient requests and schedules for radiologic procedures, arranging for patient transport to the procedure area.
  • Review requests for procedures, using clinical judgment to determine region(s) to be examined and diagnostic images to be obtained.
  • Consult with radiologists to determine the need for additional diagnostic images or comprehensive examinations.
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures by positioning patients, attaching or arranging immobilization and support devices, explaining the procedure, and instructing and reassuring patients.
  • Assist radiologists in the performance of routine radiographs, adjusting, manipulating, and controlling imaging equipment and accessories.
  • Apply knowledge of human anatomy and understanding of patient conditions to determine appropriate radiologic or testing techniques and to assure accurate, high-quality images for diagnostic interpretation.
  • Monitor patient conditions before and during performance of diagnostic procedures, recognizing changes that may require emergency actions and initiating appropriate responses.
  • Provide accurate diagnostic image identification, process diagnostic images, and monitor image quality.
  • Document procedure verification and procedural and quality control data, using a computerized system, and determine the need for and perform necessary re-imaging.
  • Collect completed diagnostic images and forward them to appropriate locations for interpretation and results reporting.
  • Calculate, prepare, log, and assist radiologists in administering and checking contrast media required in specific diagnostic procedures.
  • Practice sterile, isolation, and aseptic techniques to prevent contamination and maintain documentation of infection control procedures and activities.
  • Apply knowledge of potential radiation hazards and observe appropriate radiation safety regulations.
  • Assist in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of clinical patient areas by monitoring and ordering supplies used in diagnostic procedure areas and cleaning imaging equipment and accessories.
  • Monitor quality control on a daily basis and report operational and functional instrumentation problems to appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in scheduled training, orientation, and in-service imaging areas, educational, and staff development activities.
  • May assume a lead function in designated areas and/or oversee the activities of staff.
  • Maintain BLS competency and registry by obtaining necessary continuing education credits.
  • Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships, approach conflict in a constructive manner, and help identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, physicians, employees, and visitors to Trinity Health Michigan.
  • Assume responsibility for the performance of job duties in the safest possible manner to assure personal safety and that of coworkers and report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
  • Provide quality patient care by considering the age-specific, developmental, and cultural needs through competent clinical practice and demonstrate unit/area competencies.
Requirements
  • Requires an Associate's degree in Radiologic Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience in an AMA-approved school of Radiological Technology.
  • Three to six months on-the-job training or previous experience.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and emotional stress and gather and exchange routine patient information with nursing personnel and physicians.
  • Analytical skills necessary to determine the best method of providing requested radiographs based on the specifics of individual cases, ensuring clear and undistorted pictures.
  • Ability to lift and position patients for up to twenty percent of work time and stand and walk for up to eighty percent of work time when transporting patients, taking x-rays, delivering films, and so forth.
