Key Responsibilities

POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Execute welding and metal preparation activities, including sanding and grinding tasks.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Utilize and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) properly.

• Interpret blueprints and welding symbols to establish the sequence and methods for assembling components.

• Analyze work orders effectively.

• Employ basic hand tools such as tape measures and specialized equipment.

• Acquire skills to operate all machinery within the designated work area.

• Conduct rework as necessary.

• Support Altec Production System (APS) initiatives and may engage in RCI events.

• Flexibility to assist in various work areas to meet production demands (cross-training).

• Mark dimensions and reference lines on materials using knowledge of shop mathematics and layout techniques.

• Perform MIG welding utilizing various arc and gas welding apparatus.

• Assess assemblies/components for compliance with specifications.

• Use hand tools and portable power tools to trim, file, grind, sand, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces.

• Willingness to mentor new and existing associates.

• Adhere to established safety, environmental, and quality policies and practices.

• Maintain cleanliness of the workspace and tools/equipment.

• Keep accurate daily time records.

• Undertake additional job responsibilities as assigned.

• Job functions may vary by location.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

• High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.

• Vocational training is preferred.

• AWS D.1.1 welding certification is essential.

• Proficiency in reading, writing, and comprehension is required.

• Basic computer skills are necessary.

• Ability to read tape measures, blueprints, and schematics is crucial.

• Knowledge in the following areas is required:
o Welding
o Mechanical Skills

ADDITIONAL POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

• Maintain a tidy work environment (5S).

• Provide assistance to colleagues and team leaders as needed.

• Participate in RCI events.

• Familiarity with Altec programs and systems is beneficial.

• Shift work may be necessary.
