Job Summary

This is a professional (working) level position responsible for maintaining the operation of select LAN/WAN related network monitoring services according to higher education system policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responds to network service monitoring interruptions.
  • Works with vendors, staff, management, and customers to ensure monitoring tools are providing sufficient visibility and functionality.
  • Monitors network utilization trends, gathers statistics, and analyzes data for proactive network capacity planning.
  • Develops and supports tools for monitoring and automation.
  • Provides consultation, technical expertise, information and support to central office staff, USG institutions and other customers.
  • Monitors network performance and integrity.
  • Troubleshoots the configuration, reconfiguration, and installation of networking equipment.
  • Installs new network devices.
  • Documents processes and procedures related to job functions.
  • Schedules network maintenance.
  • Works as a member of a 24 hour on-call rotation for network emergencies and outages.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Over three years of related experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Proficiency with complex technical troubleshooting including root-cause analysis, mitigation, and developing solutions.
  • Proficiency with application development, support, troubleshooting, and coding.
  • Proficiency with full-stack development.
  • Proficiency with scripting tools such as Python, PHP, and bash.
  • Proficiency with database design and management including SQL.
  • Proficiency with enterprise network concepts including routing, switching, load balancers, firewalls, data centers, LAN, and WAN.
  • Experience with network automation using technologies such as Ansible, Python, JavaScript, PHP, etc.
  • Experience using software development APIs.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols and concepts.
  • Knowledge of Board of Regents policies and procedures.
  • Skill in collaborating with multiple constituents.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to respond diplomatically to sensitive and critical issues.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task.
