Job Description

Independence House is seeking a highly skilled Bookkeeper to join our team. As a Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for the daily tasks related to the operation of the Finance department.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive and review invoices, bills, check requests, and expense reports for completeness and accuracy.
  • Process and verify payments and bills in the general ledger.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date filing systems for finance.
  • Prepare and submit payments to the Executive Director for signature.
  • Process and reconcile petty cash disbursements.
  • Record accounts receivable payments from funding sources.
  • Prepare, record, and classify all deposits.
  • Assist in preparation and providing documentation for auditors.
  • Prepare documentation and workpapers for monthly billings and process as per contract instructions.
  • Assist with month-end and annual closing.
  • Review dates for document destruction.
  • Maintain security and confidentiality for payroll and accounting systems, as well as client confidentiality.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in accounting and administration preferred.
  • Proficient in QuickBooks, with advanced skills preferred.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft software, with proficiency in Excel.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and work through problems.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently.

Training and Certification:

  • Completion of some of the IH Domestic & Sexual Violence training – agency provided.
  • Satisfactory CORI & SORI.
  • Belief and respect for the mission of Independence House.
  • Valid MA driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance, with access to a vehicle during work hours.
  • Account with a financial institution for direct deposit of paychecks.
  • Demonstration of professionalism.
