Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Safety Officer (Senior) to join our team at the Old Dominion Group. As a key member of our construction team, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for our employees and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement OHS policies and programs to ensure compliance with legislation and industry standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments and enforce preventative measures to minimize hazards and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Review and update existing policies and measures to ensure they are current and effective.
  • Organize and conduct OHS training for employees to ensure they have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their jobs safely.
  • Inspect premises and work activities to identify potential hazards and take corrective action.
  • Investigate incidents and prepare reports to determine causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist with preparing and processing new hire safety orientation paperwork, including creating and providing onboarding packages with company policies and employee information.
Requirements:
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • HS Diploma (minimum) or equivalent; or a combination of equivalent training, education, and relevant work experience.
  • OSHA 30 and 500 certification.
  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a drug/alcohol screen and background check.
  • At least three years of safety experience.
  • Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and manage time and priorities effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be an effective team player with a positive attitude.
  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to interact with employees at all levels, supervisors, vendors, and other stakeholders in a positive, constructive manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate degree.
  • OSHA 510 certification.
Industry Certifications:
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP).
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to walk, sit, stand, bend, kneel, stretch, squat, and climb.
  • Able to frequently travel to job sites and meetings.
  • Able to wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Able to work with specialized safety equipment.
  • Able to see, talk, and hear in person, via phone, and online/video.
  • Able to lift and carry items up to 25 lbs.
  • Able to pass Respirator fit test.

Able to work in an outdoor and indoor construction work environment with potential exposure to dust, noise, waste, toxic and infectious materials, and possible inclement weather conditions.
