Job Summary

An Education Support Specialist provides specialized services to enhance student participation in education through effective assessment and intervention strategies.

This role involves collaborating with educators and parents to develop tailored support plans, ensuring students gain critical self-care and academic skills within a supportive environment.

The specialist also promotes safe and adaptive practices to facilitate student independence and engagement in school activities.

About the Role

The Education Support Specialist will be held accountable for improving manipulative skills for self-care and paper/pencil tasks through reach, grasp, and dexterity.

They will enhance school transitions and participation in educational activities by providing environmental accommodations.

The specialist will also ensure independence in feeding for safety and nourishment, as well as facilitate safety in the school environment by decreasing the possibility of injury to students or others.

Responsibilities

  • Improving manipulative skills for self-care and paper/pencil tasks through reach, grasp, and dexterity.
  • Enhancing school transitions and participation in educational activities by providing environmental accommodations.
  • Ensuring independence in feeding for safety and nourishment.
  • Facilitating safety in the school environment by decreasing the possibility of injury to students or others.

Requirements

The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelor, Master, or Doctoral degree in occupational therapy from an accredited occupational therapy program as approved by the AOTA.

They must also hold a current and active Illinois license to practice as issued by the IL Department of Professional Regulations.

Estimated Salary

$65,000 - $90,000 per year based on experience and location.
