Job Summary

The University of Maryland, Baltimore is seeking a highly skilled Payroll Processing Associate to join our team. As a key member of our payroll department, you will be responsible for processing payroll and financial accounting system transactions, as well as coordinating activities within the institution and with other USM institutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process biweekly payroll adjustment entries and enter reason codes.
  • Run queries to analyze data and follow up on problems identified in exception queries.
  • Run retroactive pay process and contact campus schools and units to validate calculations for large amounts.
  • Enter offsetting entries for each negative retro pay on employee's payline.
  • Maintain control logs for data processing, including bi-weekly totals and form counts.
  • Participate in training activities and departmental meetings as needed.
  • Work with campus schools and departments to verify quarterly dual employment reports and bi-weekly new hires dual employment reports.
  • Distribute documentation to UMB and UMCP System Payroll.
  • Mail paper pay checks and contact campus schools and units to validate addresses if an employee appears to have different addresses listed in home and check address fields.
  • Image, index, and store payroll documents, including payroll and leave adjustment forms, journal entries, and foreign national employee tax files.
  • Process payroll journal entries and insert tax periods for new hires retro pay.
  • Validate final payroll reports before and after net pay processing.
  • Work with campus schools and departments to resolve issues with expired projects.
  • Set up foreign national employees and non-employees in the required Glacier system and follow up with departments if employees did not complete Glacier after setup.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Four years of payroll experience, two years of which must have included knowledge of State and Federal Payroll Regulations and the use of tax tables to determine deductions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of complex and specialized payroll and data processing procedures used in processing the University payroll.
  • Ability to evaluate conformity with established procedures and maintain batch controls.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions

Employees in this job class may be required to work overtime to meet required deadlines.
