Financial Reporting Accountant Job Description

Securian Financial Group is seeking a skilled Financial Reporting Accountant to join our Institutional Retirement Solutions (IRS) finance team. As a Financial Reporting Accountant, you will play a critical role in preparing GAAP and Statutory financial statements, collaborating with internal and external auditors, and ensuring the accuracy of accounting transactions processed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare monthly Retirement Recordkeeping reinsurance financial statements and reporting, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Ensure the accuracy of accounting transactions processed and identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Develop and document procedures for testing changes to automated accounting feeds, providing feedback and ensuring accuracy of accounting.
  • Support the preparation and communication of financial information for auditors, insurance examiners, rating agencies, insurance agencies, and company leaders.
  • Participate in projects related to financial reporting or financial contracts and reconcile monthly settlement statements and financials from third-party administrators.
  • Liaise with the reinsurance relationship with third-party administrators and partner on financial reconciliations to resolve accounting issues.
Qualifications:
  • Accounting experience with exposure to statutory, management-based, tax, and GAAP for financial reporting and budgeting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Math.
  • Demonstrated initiative to serve as a resource for team members and independently manage projects.
  • Written and verbal communication skills to provide superior customer service to a variety of business partners.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills to review and analyze financial statements and reports.
  • Understanding of the structure of data within financial and administration systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to effectively multi-task and meet prescribed deadlines on a continuous basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of insurance concepts and products.
  • Reinsurance accounting experience.
