Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Reporting Accountant to join our Institutional Retirement Solutions (IRS) finance team at Securian Financial Group. As a Financial Reporting Accountant, you will play a critical role in preparing and analyzing financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review financial statements, including GAAP and Statutory financial statements, to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to ensure smooth audit processes and address any audit findings.
  • Develop and maintain financial reporting schedules and exhibits, including rating agency presentations and internal data for senior management.
  • Support the preparation and communication of financial information to various stakeholders, including auditors, insurance examiners, rating agencies, and company leaders.
  • Participate in projects related to financial reporting or financial contracts, and provide analytical support as needed.
  • Reconcile monthly settlement statements and financials from third-party administrators, and identify and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Liaise with third-party administrators to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Develop and document procedures for testing changes to automated accounting feeds, and provide feedback to ensure accuracy.
Requirements
  • Accounting experience with exposure to statutory, management-based, tax, and GAAP for financial reporting and budgeting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Math.
  • Demonstrated initiative to serve as a resource for team members and independently manage projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to provide superior customer service to various business partners.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills to review and analyze financial statements and reports.
  • Understanding of the structure of data within financial and administration systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to effectively multi-task and meet prescribed deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of insurance concepts and products.
  • Reinsurance accounting experience.
