Position Summary

BeVera Solutions is in search of a driven and skilled Linux Systems Administrator. This role involves supporting the upkeep and management of IT infrastructure components, particularly focusing on Linux-based systems, networking, storage, and automation. Candidates must exhibit expertise in various IT domains, including RedHat/CentOS administration, scripting, configuration management, and virtualization. The selected individual will collaborate closely with the IT team to guarantee the reliability, security, and efficiency of the infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

The Linux Systems Administrator will be tasked with the following key responsibilities:

1. Linux System Management:

  • Exhibit knowledge equivalent to a RedHat Certified System Administrator and RedHat Certified Systems Engineer.
  • Develop moderately complex shell scripts for task automation.
  • Oversee operational systems, including process identification, execution tracing, and service control.
  • Configure and manage both local and network file systems, including file system attributes (permissions, encryption, ACLs).
  • Set up and manage BIND servers for IP address space oversight.
  • Independently create and maintain Ansible scripts for service configuration automation.

2. Infrastructure Oversight:

  • Install, update, and manage software, core services, and system configurations utilizing Ansible and bash shell scripts.
  • Administer and troubleshoot FreeIPA and Linux-based LDAP servers for authentication purposes.
  • Ensure system security through fundamental firewall and SE Linux configurations.
  • Oversee multiple NAS appliances that provide File, Block, and Object storage solutions.
  • Generate and execute change requests for maintenance, including documentation and after-action reports.

3. Documentation and Issue Management:

  • Maintain relevant documentation within the online wiki.
  • Log detailed issues in JIRA projects, specifying project lifecycles, meeting deadlines, and documenting issues appropriately.
  • Evaluate security vulnerabilities, formulate remediation plans, and implement solutions.

4. Troubleshooting and Analysis:

  • Independently diagnose servers and services in a scientific computing environment, identifying root causes and providing sustainable solutions.
  • Analyze active services and document their usage in the current environment, including interactions with critical services.

5. Security and Compliance:

  • Maintain a secure list of non-shared passwords.
  • Adhere to all established company and customer policies, processes, and procedures.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 4 years of relevant work experience; 4 years of additional experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Technical experience equivalent to a RedHat Certified Engineer.
  • Experience with RedHat/CentOS 7/8 administration.
  • Intermediate skills in configuration management using modern systems (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  • Intermediate experience with virtualization/hypervisors (VMware or equivalent).
  • Intermediate management of NAS storage appliances.
  • Intermediate scripting skills in modern scripting languages (bash, python, perl, ruby).
  • Familiarity with container technologies (Docker, Podman, libvirt, etc.).
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Effective organizational and communication abilities.
  • Experience working with/in the CDC.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • RHCE certification.
  • Layer 2 switch networking with VLAN management.
  • Experience with Rancher Kubernetes Management Engine (RKE).
  • Familiarity with Pure FlashBlade Storage Appliance.
  • Experience with Cloudera CDP and Ubuntu.
  • Proficiency in Python 3 scripting.
  • Familiarity with the Docker containerization ecosystem.
  • Experience managing multi-protocol accessible file shares.
  • Verifiable contributions to an Open Source Project.
  • Familiarity with the configuration of Dell and HP physical servers.
  • Familiarity with HP Blade servers.
  • Knowledge of monitoring environments (Nagios, Zabbix, Sensu, Prometheus).
  • Familiarity with security vulnerability triage and remediation.
  • Cloud certification (AWS or Azure).
