Position Overview

This role is for an Air Reserve Technician (ART) who is integral to the operational efficiency of the unit's maintenance organization. ARTs are recognized as part of the regular career civil service, benefiting from all entitlements afforded to Federal employees.

Eligibility Criteria

This position is accessible to:
  • Career transition candidates, including surplus or displaced employees.
  • Current or former federal employees from competitive service.
  • Current excepted service federal employees.
  • Individuals from land and base management agencies.
  • Military spouses.
  • Veterans.
Key Responsibilities

The primary objective of this position is: To oversee and manage the training initiatives within the maintenance unit. This encompasses a variety of training programs including on-the-job training (OJT), civilian training mandates, re-training, formal education, instructional systems development (ISD), professional military education, and ancillary training. The role also involves strategic training planning, providing expert guidance to supervisors and managers on training program elements, preparing status briefings, and delivering training to new personnel and reservists.

Specific Duties Include:

1. Directing and managing the maintenance training program effectively.
2. Implementing and supervising all components of the On-the-Job Training program for personnel including ARTs, reservists, and civilian staff.
3. Overseeing special certification training, ensuring necessary training for maintenance personnel is arranged and monitored.
4. Conducting both formal and informal assessments of training needs within the unit.
5. Managing ancillary training programs and developing schedules for training events.

Employment Conditions

  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
  • Must be a current member of the Air Force Reserve or eligible to join.
  • Compliance with drug testing protocols is required.
  • Shift work and emergency overtime may be necessary.
  • Maintaining current certifications is essential.
Qualifications

To qualify, candidates must meet the specialized experience requirements as defined by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Candidates should possess one year of specialized experience that demonstrates knowledge of maintenance missions, practices, and training requirements.

EDUCATION: A Master’s degree or equivalent graduate education may also qualify.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that meets the qualifications may be acceptable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Applicants will be evaluated based on their proficiency in the following areas:
  1. Understanding of AFRC Reserve mission and training methodologies.
  2. Ability to manage and implement training programs effectively.
  3. Proficiency in analyzing training statistics.
  4. Skill in utilizing automated systems for reporting and data extraction.
  5. Knowledge of maintenance training requirements and qualifications.
  6. Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
Additional Information

This position is classified as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) role, requiring adherence to Air Force Reserve standards. The incumbent may be called upon to perform additional duties as assigned and may be required to travel for temporary duty assignments.
