The YMCA of Greater Kansas City is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lifeguard to join our team. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of members and visitors within the pool areas while upholding the Y's core values.
Responsibilities- Model the Core Values: Demonstrate the core values of Caring, Honest, Respect, and Responsibility in all aspects of center operations.
- Pool Safety: Continuously scan the pool, whirlpool, and sauna areas to ensure safe conditions.
- Alertness: Maintain a high level of alertness at all times.
- Staff Training: Participate in ongoing training, including safety audits and rescue techniques.
- Enforce Rules: Enforce all posted rules and any other rules required to ensure the safety of all participants.
- Pool Maintenance: Ensure the pool deck is free of clutter and perform maintenance duties assigned by the Aquatic Director.
- Chemical Testing: Test pool chemical levels and report changes to the Aquatics Director immediately.
- Incident Reporting: Fill out all Y accident and incident reports completely and turn them in to the Aquatics Director.
- Opening and Closing Procedures: Participate in opening and closing procedures, including ensuring the pool is secure and ready for the next day.
- Teamwork: Demonstrate a team player attitude and work collaboratively with all staff.
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Lifeguard Certification: Must have a current nationally recognized Lifeguard Certification, such as YMCA Lifeguard 6th ED, ARC, Starguard, Jeff Ellis and Associates, or Boy Scouts of America.
- CPR/AED Certification: Must have current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certification from a recognized organization.
- Physical Competency: Must be able to pass a physical competency test, including swimming 250 yards without stopping, treading water for 2 minutes, and performing rescue skills.
- Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
