Reading Specialist Position

The Davenport Community School District is seeking a highly qualified Reading Specialist to support teachers and students in achieving academic success.

About the Role
  • Coach teachers to improve core instruction and model effective teaching practices.
  • Provide intensive coaching and modeling for new teachers to ensure a strong foundation in reading instruction.
  • Develop and implement professional development for building-level teachers and interventionists to enhance literacy skills.
  • Coach grade-level teams to analyze data, monitor progress, and implement effective strategies and interventions to improve reading outcomes.
  • Assist in providing district-level professional development for staff to ensure consistency in reading instruction.
  • Monitor assessments and provide feedback to teachers to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.
  • Oversee the system for evaluating academic needs of students and ensure accurate and timely data reports.
  • Meet with the SIT Team to analyze data and design instruction that meets the needs of all students.
Requirements
  • 3 years of teaching experience with a strong background in reading instruction.
  • Master's Degree in reading or a related field.
  • Strong reading background and knowledge of literacy best practices.
  • LETRS, FAST, PBIS, PLC, and MTSS training or willingness to be trained.
  • Reading Recovery or Reading First training is a plus.
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Technology proficiency and strong data analysis, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Able to work as a team member and communicate effectively with parents, staff, and students.
Work Environment
  • Noise level is quiet to loud.
  • Work may be indoors and/or outdoors.
  • Work may be in non-air-conditioned rooms.
  • Substance-free environment.
  • Fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, or the public.
