Job Title: Insurance Coordinator

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Insurance Coordinator to join our team at South Shore Health. As an Insurance Coordinator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth admission process and insurance verification for patients and referrals to our Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation department.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Respond to incoming calls and requests for services, completing insurance intake information from patients, physicians, and other sources.
  • Develop effective relationships with payer representatives to facilitate coverage and problem resolution.
  • Provide documentation for third-party payer benefits in a timely manner.
  • Understand coordination of benefits and act as a liaison between patients and clinicians.
  • Maintain knowledge of payer requirements and initiate methods to maintain knowledge.
Pre-Authorization:
  • Create an accurate database for all patients and verify third-party coverage.
  • Obtain pre-authorizations/certification for services per payer guidelines before the initial date of service.
  • Enter referral information into the referral shell in EPIC and record patient medical record referral information as it is received.
Obtaining Letters of Medical Necessity:

Work with patients' referring MDs to obtain medical necessity before booking initial appointments for cardiac rehabilitation services.

Cardiac Rehab Program Enrollment:
  • Responsible for the successful collection of all necessary documentation from patients, physicians, and other facilities for patients entering the Cardiac Rehab program.
  • Provide clerical support to the Cardiac Rehab department as scheduled by the Nurse Manager.
Customer Service/Check-In:

Greet and acknowledge all patients and visitors with professionalism and direct them to appropriate services.

Pre-Registration and Registration:
  • Complete pre-registrations and registrations with respect for patient privacy and understand the impact of data accuracy on hospital operations.
  • Ensure complete collection of referral information, including accurate patient demographics and referring physician contact information.
  • Ensure accurate registration of insurance information and communicate with patients in a confidential manner.
Scheduling Appointments:

Schedule cardiac rehabilitation appointments in an efficient, coordinated, and integrated manner to maximize optimal utilization of resources and patient access to services.

Co-Payment Collection:

Adhere to department standards for timely collection of co-payment, completing all documentation and delivery according to department standards.
