In the Vehicle Motion Division, we are at the forefront of designing and developing cutting-edge safety and motion solutions for various vehicles, including passenger cars and light trucks. Our commitment to mobility encompasses steering, braking, occupant safety, and vehicle dynamic sensors, with a strong focus on software and services for the future of Software Defined Vehicles.
The Steering Lab Test Team Lead is tasked with overseeing a team of 10-12 technicians, ensuring the efficient operation of the test lab on a daily basis. The primary focus is on the safety, qualification, and motivation of all lab personnel, which necessitates effective communication and organized task distribution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set a positive example to uphold safety standards, maintain order, and ensure timely processing of testing work orders.
- Oversee daily lab operations, actively managing the assignment of work orders using a Kanban approach.
- Conduct regular meetings with test engineers to align on weekly lab tasks and test bench scheduling.
- Coordinate priorities with test engineers and leadership in case of resource conflicts.
- Monitor technician proficiency in test procedures.
- Facilitate consistent training for the team and promote cross-training initiatives.
- Establish metrics to measure test equipment utilization and drive continuous improvement.
- Identify and develop new technical capabilities or procedures.
- Conduct annual goal-setting and performance reviews for team members.
- Mentor team members and support their career growth.
- Manage team working hours, including occasional overtime scheduling.
- Act as the primary contact for Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and Facilities Management (FCM) representatives.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental policies.
- Proactively identify and mitigate hazards in the work environment.
- Consult on technical issues related to equipment and test setups, requiring the ability to analyze complex topics involving mechanical and electrical test equipment.
- Develop a storage strategy for high volumes of test samples to ensure effective organization and material flow.
- Assign and oversee regular organization and cleanliness tasks in collaboration with test engineers.
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or a related technical field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering lab or automotive production environment, or 10+ years in automotive production or engineering lab with leadership responsibilities.
- Proven leadership abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Familiarity with design elements and technical features of mechatronic systems.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving technical and procedural challenges.
- Knowledge and technical experience with rack and pinion electric power steering systems.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and engage with personnel at all levels.
- Familiarity with Vector tools and CAN communication.
