Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Vascular Access Nurse to join our team at Memorial Healthcare System. As a Vascular Access Nurse, you will be responsible for providing evidence-based vascular access care for patients, including IV access, PICC line placement and insertion, IV access repair, blood draws, and dressing changes.

Responsibilities:

  • De-clot VADs or assist staff as a resource in de-clotting.
  • Conduct prevention rounding and follow up on identified concerns promptly.
  • Complete the hand off process at shift change, providing patient information, communicating pending IVs, PICC line insertions, and dressing changes.
  • Communicate patient progress, critical findings, and changes in the patient's condition with the physician or disciplines involved regarding IV therapy complications and procedures.
  • Assess all body systems, absence of blood-borne infections, surgical site infections, and observance of skin integrity for prevention of skin breakdown.
  • Educate patients and families on vascular access procedures, document teaching in the Electronic Health Record, and notify RN and/or physician of any patient/family concerns.
  • Provide vascular access nursing care, including peripheral intravenous (IV), peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line insertion, placement, monitoring, and dressing changes.
  • Troubleshoot difficult complications of VADs or assist staff in troubleshooting.
  • Work with staff nurses, physicians, case managers, and other team members to ensure early assessment for VAD selection and implementation.
  • Assemble medical equipment and supplies for procedures and restock supplies.
  • Place difficult peripheral IVs with or without ultrasound as needed.
  • Perform reassessments as per policy, when there is a change in the plan of care or when an intervention is performed.
  • Provide staff education on care and management and complication management.

Requirements:

  • Associates degree in Nursing (Required)
  • ACLS Certification (American Heart Association)
  • BLS Certification (American Heart Association)
  • NRP Certification (American Academy of Pediatrics)
  • PALS Certification (American Heart Association)
  • Registered Nurse License (State of Florida)
