Academic Advisor for Upward Bound Program

About the Role

The Academic Advisor for Upward Bound will provide academic support services to high school students who are low-income and potential first-generation college students. The advisor will work with students to increase their academic development and non-cognitive personal skills, with the goal of improving academic success, high school graduation, and university enrollment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide academic advising and support to high school students
  • Develop and implement academic support programs for low-income and first-generation college students
  • Collaborate with high school staff and university faculty to ensure seamless transition of students to higher education
  • Conduct outreach and recruitment activities to engage high school students and their families
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and make data-driven decisions to improve program outcomes

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working with federal Trio programs, academic support programs, or similar programs for disadvantaged students
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, and the public

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those facing project participants
