Job Summary:

The Welder Fabricator will be responsible for performing multiple tasks to support the production of End of Car Cushion Units. This includes fabricating and welding metal components, as well as disassembling, assembling, cleaning, requalifying, and rework of components as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate and weld metal components to support the production of End of Car Cushion Units
  • Disassemble, assemble, clean, requalify, and rework components as needed
  • Use various tools and equipment, including weld torches, plasma cutters, electric/pneumatic tools, overhead cranes, and forklifts
  • Assist in any or all product lines in the facility
  • Responsible for welding metal components as specified by layout, blueprints, diagrams, or standard operating procedures (SOP), using electric arc-welding equipment
  • Weld components in accordance with standard GMAW processes and applications with the desired outcome of joining a variety of material types and thicknesses together in accordance with site specifications

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Successful completion of MIG/GMAW training course/program OR minimum 1 year of experience as a MIG/GMAW and Subarc welding
  • Ability to weld in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead)
  • Ability to pass Qualification/Certification after 180 days, following AWS-D15.1 Guidelines
  • Willingness to complete some general assembly work
  • Ability to read simple to complex blue prints and manufacturing instructions
  • Ability to lift material up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to wear PPE such as a respirator, weld jackets, gloves, welder hoods, ear plugs, and proper eye protection

Desired Characteristics:

  • Technical School certification preferred
  • Knowledge of EHS procedures and policies
  • Ability to use manual equipment and hand tools safely
  • Working knowledge of inspection measurement equipment
  • Understanding of manufacturing and quality procedures in a lean manufacturing environment
  • Prior fork truck and overhead crane experience preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively on a team
  • Excellent customer service skills
