Job Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant plays a vital role in the delivery of patient care, working closely with Providers to ensure seamless patient-to-doctor flow. This role requires strong clinical and administrative skills, with a focus on providing exceptional patient care and support.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Reviews and prepares medical records to ensure completeness, obtaining reports and results as needed. Documents clinic visits, observations, and related activities, and files charts.
  2. Assists with gathering data for patient history and physical assessment, supporting nurses and physicians with physical exams and simple in-house procedures.
  3. Checks patient vital signs and takes body measurements, documenting results in patient charts.
  4. Prepares and maintains exam and treatment rooms, ensuring a clean and sanitized environment. Maintains supplies inventory and ensures patient care equipment is clean and functioning properly.
  5. Collects specimens and prepares them for outside lab, communicating with lab for STAT pickups or testing. Performs simple STAT lab tests and prepares lab results for physician review.
  6. Administers breathing treatments and injections as ordered by the Provider, performs EKGs, and tests pregnant patients on NST machines as needed.
  7. Answers phone calls, relaying patient requests and questions to appropriate individuals. Explains Provider instructions to patients and provides teaching within scope of knowledge base.
  8. Assists with scheduling and referral of patients for specific treatments.
  9. Responds to medical emergencies and administers first aid as appropriate.
  10. Performs other duties as required.
Requirements

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program.

Experience: Ambulatory care experience preferred; bilingual skills a plus.

Licenses or Certifications: Valid Certified Medical Assistant certificate and BCLS certification required.

Mental and Physical Requirements

Level 1 – Requires some concentration and normal attention. Generally, once the job is learned, tasks can be performed more or less automatically.

Level 2 – Requires high periods of concentration intermittently and normal attention. Generally, even once the job is learned, tasks will require normal attention to deal with recurring variables.

Level 3 – Requires a high level of concentration and high level of attention intermittently. Generally, the approach to tasks may be consistent, but the number of steps required and/or the number of variables involved creates the possibility of errors unless the incumbent pays close attention.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious agents; lifting and transferring of patients, supplies, and equipment creates risk of injury.
