ITW Medical encompasses two esteemed medical product brands - Coeur & Filtertek - delivering medical devices and components to leading global medical device brands. Filtertek specializes in molded filtration and flow control components, while Coeur is a premier provider of disposable diagnostic imaging consumables.

Position Overview

This role is situated within the Engineering group and reports directly to the New Product Development Manager. The primary focus will be to spearhead customer-driven innovation initiatives within the Medical Division's high-growth business segments. This position is accountable for overseeing the entire product development lifecycle, from assessing market viability and customer needs to mobilizing engineering resources and facilitating product launch. This strategic role within ITW Medical is pivotal for making a significant impact on the business while fostering career advancement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and assist in the development, modification, and implementation of infusion disposable components, adhering to established design control processes and sound engineering practices. Collaborate with others to resolve technical challenges using engineering and statistical methodologies, including design of experiments (DOE). Engage with customers and suppliers on high-volume disposable medical component design, consistently seeking innovative improvements.
  • Implement design modifications to existing products, ensuring compatibility through rigorous testing. Provide engineering and technical support to production regarding product specifications and requirements. Guide the successful execution of major programs or projects.
  • Concept Development: Lead and support product development from initial concepts through various prototyping stages to final design, applying sound engineering principles, including product requirements, concept design, prototyping, and testing.
  • Design for Manufacturability: Collaborate closely with Operations and Project Engineering Teams to ensure effective design verification and transfer. Conduct FMEA and Risk analysis as part of the design control process.
  • Customer Engagement: Collaborate directly with customer R&D teams to identify and address challenges through innovative problem-solving and product design, ensuring sustainable differentiation. Translate customer requirements into product designs while utilizing Design Control to deliver value to both customers and patients.
  • Value Proposition Development: Translate customer needs and pain points into a compelling value proposition supported by a strong business case.
  • Team Collaboration: Serve as a lead technical resource on project teams, working closely with fellow engineers, customers, sales, and manufacturing regarding new product development.
  • Utilize ITW Toolbox and 80-20 principles to effectively drive results in a dynamic, collaborative, and low-ego work environment.
Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Plastics, Biomedical) is required.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience is preferred.
  • Experience in product design within a high-volume plastic injection molding manufacturing environment is essential.
  • Injection mold tooling design experience is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (Solidworks preferred) is required.
  • Understanding of part design layout and GD&T is necessary.
  • Familiarity with DFMEA & PFMEA methodologies is important.
  • Knowledge of advanced analysis tools and methods for solving complex technical issues (e.g., 3-D Modeling, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Finite Element Analysis) is beneficial.
  • Mold-flow analysis experience is a plus.
  • Ability to independently test, analyze, and resolve technical challenges.
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing is strongly preferred.
  • Exemplary organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Strong oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills are essential.
  • Self-directed with a creative problem-solving approach.
  • Capability to train and mentor others based on technical expertise.
