Position Summary:
The individual in this role is responsible for the processing and distribution of routine and specialized medical and surgical supplies and instruments essential for patient care. This includes cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and packaging medical and surgical instrument trays.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Assemble instrument baskets, basin sets, and equipment using designated checklists in preparation for sterilization.
2. Compile sets of supplies and instruments for various clinical environments, ensuring cleanliness and operational integrity (e.g., sharpness of scissors, functionality of hinged instruments).
3. Decontaminate, disinfect, and thoroughly clean supplies, instruments, and equipment utilized in diverse procedures.
4. Distribute instruments, equipment, and supplies to the appropriate locations.
5. Monitor and maintain sufficient inventory levels of supplies, instruments, and equipment.
6. Oversee equipment for any malfunctions, perform minor repairs, and alert relevant personnel for major repair needs.
7. Exhibit proficiency in the reprocessing and upkeep of endoscopes and other endoscopic devices in accordance with high-level disinfection (HLD) policies and manufacturer instructions (IFU). Maintain scope washers and check detergent levels and disinfectant effectiveness as per established protocols. Communicate effectively regarding scope repairs, loaners, supplies, and quality improvement information by keeping accurate documentation of all actions. Adhere to PPE protocols, maintain necessary supplies for cleaning and reprocessing, and report equipment failures and required repairs promptly. Accurately log data in appropriate records.
8. Interact with equipment following manufacturer guidelines, demonstrating thorough knowledge of instrument and equipment IFUs and processing instruments appropriately.
9. Adhere to PPE protocols.
10. Maintain necessary supplies for cleaning and reprocessing while effectively communicating equipment failures and required repairs.
11. Accurately log data in appropriate records.


Additional Information

Professional Experience Requirements:
● No prior experience required.
● If employed at specific medical centers, nine months of experience as a sterile technician is necessary.
● Graduation from a sterile processing program negates the experience requirement.
