Job Summary

Under general direction, the Senior Planner will lead and manage planning teams responsible for performing planning assignments such as long-range plans and studies and current planning activities. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of urban planning principles, concepts, practices, and theories, as well as experience with GIS, research methodology, and data analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage planning teams to ensure the city's policies and standards are met.
  • Research and develop project objectives, development programs, and budgets based on Council priorities and public input.
  • Review development and related land use permit applications, examine applications for compliance with established plans and ordinances, and solicit input from appropriate staff.
  • Facilitate meetings of Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and other groups as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in urban and regional planning, geography/GIS, political science/public administration, architecture, environmental science, landscape architecture, business, or related field.
  • Two (2) years related experience, with a Master's Degree preferred.
  • AICP certification preferred.
Working Conditions

The Senior Planner will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent deadlines and multiple projects. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
