Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist-Blood Bank to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing routine and special laboratory tests, evaluating and reporting results, and participating in additional activities to satisfy department needs.

Responsibilities
  • Accepts, prepares, and assesses clinical specimens, verifying the name on the tube or specimen with the requisition and investigating and documenting all findings related to discrepancies.
  • Performs all testing and related calculations, organizing the workload to minimize specimen processing delays and maximize efficiency in processing tests.
  • Evaluates and reports results, demonstrating an appropriate level of understanding of scientific aspects of laboratory testing.
  • Participates in additional activities necessary to satisfy department needs and requirements, including assisting in implementing changes in existing or new procedures designated by departmental needs.
Qualifications

We require a Bachelor's degree in any science (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology) and experience in laboratory science is preferred. A B.S.M.T. (ASCP) or equivalent certification is also required.

Physical Demands

The successful candidate will be required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. They will occasionally be required to stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. They must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. They will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
