Key Responsibilities:- Assist with managing a 100+ person softgel production work unit in accordance with SOPs, GMPs, quality regulations, and safety practices.
- Oversee the day-to-day productivity and performance of departmental employees for the 3-shifts.
- Lead, train, coach, and develop supervisors, assistant supervisors, leads, and all employees within the softgel department.
- Ensure timely completion of employee-training programs as assigned or needed.
- Ensure employees follow procedures as described in batch records and that batch records are completed properly and submitted to Quality promptly.
- Handle work-related issues promptly to maintain harmony within and between departments.
- Assist with planning and scheduling softgel production processes to meet required completion/end dates.
- Develop and implement programs to improve staff efficiency, working abilities, and communication skills continuously.
- Troubleshoot softgel formulation and quality issues, as well as mechanical and functional problems affecting the production process.
- Ensure maintenance and sanitation of softgel production equipment and processing rooms.
- Ensure that softgel machines run at optimal speeds and that machine changeover times and production downtimes are minimal.
- Ensure the manufacturing of quality products meets all company standards and specifications.
- Ensure acceptable production yields.
- Assist Quality personnel with product quality, batch reconciliation, or GMP issues when necessary.
- Schedule small pilot runs for R&D and sample purposes as needed or requested.
- Perform administrative duties, including completing production reports, maintaining records, employee payroll keeping, injury/illness reports, etc.
- Communicate with other department personnel, senior management, and peers, maintaining a professional, cooperative relationship with all parties involved in the performance of job duties.
- Ensure inventory accuracy as it relates to production processes.
- Measure and report various key performance indicators as required by the Production Manager.
- Attend management-focused training sessions and departmental meetings as requested by the Production Manager.
- Perform other supervisory and managerial duties as needed/requested by the Production Manager.
- Support Company policies, procedures, and work rules, ensuring that department employees comply with policies, standards, and work rules.
- Assist with interviewing and selection of new hires, ensuring non-discriminatory laws and guidelines are followed.
- Train and educate employees on Company policies and work rules (safety policies, work rules, and machinery safety); participate in injury/accident investigations, completing necessary reports; conduct daily safety inspections of production work areas.
- Provide coaching, guidance, and training to department employees; ensure employees meet company standards and work expectations as required by job description.
- Counsel and discipline employees as needed to ensure compliance with Company policies, standards, and work rules; participate in employee suspension and termination meetings.
- Complete employee performance evaluation forms in a timely manner and within the time allotted by the human resources department; conduct employee performance evaluation meetings with subordinate department employees.
- Set a positive example of leadership for others within the department and throughout the organization; promote a leadership style that encourages open communication, positive team-building efforts, and employee morale.
- Bachelor Degree preferred: High School Diploma or equivalent GED certificate
- Three (3) or more years of work experience in management/supervision in a manufacturing work environment.
