POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cashier plays a vital role in facilitating customer transactions at the checkout counters. This position involves various customer service responsibilities, including warmly greeting and assisting customers while ensuring the careful handling of merchandise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to exceptional customer service, creating a pleasant shopping experience for all patrons.
  • Engages with customers in a friendly and approachable manner.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of products and services offered.
  • Stays informed about current promotions and sales.
  • Restocks and organizes merchandise in the immediate area when not actively processing transactions.
  • Delivers a memorable shopping experience by assisting customers in their purchasing decisions through:
    • Identifying and assessing customer needs,
    • Providing tailored product recommendations,
    • Promoting various programs, including membership options and in-store services.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Requirement: High School diploma or equivalent experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in performing calculations, such as discounts and handling cash transactions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers and colleagues.
  • Capable of establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with management, coworkers, and customers.
  • Experience operating computerized Point of Sale systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly required to stand and/or walk throughout the shift.
  • Occasionally required to climb ladders or stairs.
  • Consistently communicates with others to exchange information.
  • Frequently performs repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Occasionally works in varying temperature conditions.
  • May be exposed to outdoor elements and noisy environments.
  • Engages in light physical work, including lifting objects up to 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally (team lifting as necessary).

INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT:

Operates under general supervision, utilizing established procedures and innovative thinking. Makes informed choices from limited options to address challenges. Occasionally exercises independent judgment to complete tasks and may suggest improvements to work processes and policies.
