Job Summary

Summit Fire & Security is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Fire Protection Inspector Trainee to join our team. As a Fire Protection Inspector Trainee, you will assist experienced inspectors in performing fire protection inspections and 24-hour service under direct supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist inspectors in inspecting, testing, and maintaining fire protection systems in accordance with NFPA codes
  • Develop a working knowledge of life safety and NFPA codes and standards
  • Perform testing and maintenance under direct supervision of an Inspection/Service Technician
  • Required to complete on-the-job training documentation each week
  • Differentiate between inspection deficiencies and service required to correct found deficiencies
  • Understand and follow SFS's Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies, and procedures
  • Participate in weekly Toolbox talks
  • Inspectors must know where all related safety documentation is at all times on each project
  • Required to attend Inspector training session at SFS to stay abreast of changing technology, installation, and testing and reporting approaches
  • Classes are scheduled per region, per quarter for a two-year period
  • Required to begin NICET exam cycle application within the 3rd evolution of training, NICET exam preparation within the 4th evolution of training, and begin to test for NICET during session 5 or approximately within 1 year of hire date or enrollment into Inspector training classes
  • Trainees are required to pass NICET Level II certification in Inspection Testing & Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems prior to achieving "Inspector" status
Requirements
  • HS Diploma or equivalent required
  • 0-2 years of experience inspecting fire protection systems preferred
  • Must be able to work alone and as part of a team
  • Basic math skills, mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, customer service skills, decision-making skills, ability to multitask, ability to meet project schedules, ability to plan and organize, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to train others required
  • Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English with employees and customers
  • Ability to operate a computer and tablet required
  • Experience with Sales Force and ERP systems preferred
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required
  • Must be able to comply with SFS's Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, which may also include customer-specific requirements based on contractual agreement
