Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Histology Technician to join our team at St. Josephs Hospital, part of the Baycare Health System. As a Histology Technician, you will play a critical role in the preparation and examination of tissue samples for diagnostic purposes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare tissue samples for examination by cutting and staining sections using microtomes and cryostats.
  • Operate automated and manual microtomes, and cryostats to cut tissue sections.
  • Perform staining procedures, including Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E), Periodic Acid-Schiff (PAS), and Immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining.
  • Embed and section frozen tissues using microtomes and cryostats.
  • Operate specialized equipment, including the Roche Ventana Ultra and Benchmark Special Stainer.
  • Work in a fast-paced laboratory environment, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Collaborate with pathologists and other laboratory staff to ensure accurate and timely results.
Requirements
  • 2 years of experience in histology or a related field.
  • Formalin, frozen section/tissue grossing/fixation experience required.
  • Automated/manual microtome, cuts tissue sections using microtome and cryostat experience required.
  • Staining experience required (Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E), Periodic Acid-Schiff (PAS), IHC Staining).
  • Microtomy of frozen sections embedding/microtomy experience preferred.
  • Specialized equipment experience, including Roche Ventana Ultra and Benchmark Special Stainer.
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred.
Work Environment

This is a full-time position working in a laboratory setting. The schedule is 5x8s, 22:30-07:00, with no on-call requirements. Weekend and floating requirements will be discussed during the interview process.
