About the Role

We are seeking an Oncology Resource Specialist to join our team at Duke Raleigh Campus. As an integral part of the patient care team, you will be responsible for navigating oncology patients and referring providers through the new patient referral process and first visits to the Duke Cancer Centers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with patients and referring providers to identify specific needs for their oncology care, including timeliness of visits, provider coordination, and psychosocial care.
  • Ensure comprehensive, timely, and seamless care through initiation of the referral process, coordination with medical team members, and providing patient education and support.
  • Be the first contact for all new patients coming into the Duke Cancer Centers, as well as the contact for referring providers who are referring new oncology patients into the system.
  • Have a full understanding of all cancers, providers, scheduling guidelines, and necessary records within all oncology disease groups at all locations.
  • Exhibit extensive understanding of patient care and health system pathways and serve as a conduit between patient and providers to address appointment clinical urgency, patient preference around scheduling timeframes, and psychosocial needs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in health education or public health fields preferred.
  • Three years of experience in a patient-centered, health-related field. Two additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist preferred.
