POSITION SUMMARY:

Transport and deliver trailers between various service centers and designated locations using tractor-trailer combinations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and safety inspections on vehicles.
- Connect and disconnect trailers and converter dollies from tractors and trailers.
- Ensure accurate completion of necessary documentation and reports.
- Maintain precise daily logs of operations.
- Adhere to hazardous material regulations and procedures.
- Follow dispatch instructions and communicate with dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, and equipment issues as necessary.
- May be required to perform tire chaining on vehicles.
- May also perform duties of a city driver or dock employee when operationally necessary.
- Load and unload freight as needed.
- Comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with endorsements for double/triple trailers, hazardous materials, and tank vehicles. Automatic transmission CDL restriction is acceptable.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience within the last 3 years, or successful completion of a relevant driver development course.
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
  • Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements as outlined in section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier regulations.
  • For states where Long Combination Vehicles (LCV) are operated, drivers must meet the LCV Qualification and Certification Minimum Standards.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills for documentation and interaction with peers and supervisors.
  • Ability to connect and disconnect sets of trailers requiring an average lift force of approximately 100 pounds multiple times daily.
  • Capability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, and climb in and out of the truck.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates initiative and motivation.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
  • Drive long distances during day and night across various road conditions and weather.
  • Exposure to noise and vibration.
  • Exposure to dust and diesel fumes.
  • Handling of hazardous materials in compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Work hours may vary based on operational needs.
  • Overnight stays may be necessary for certain schedules.
Note: The Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance. Driving a commercial motor vehicle without this endorsement is not permitted.
