College and Career Advisor

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced College and Career Advisor to join our team at Marion Technical College. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing guidance and support to students, parents, and educators to ensure successful transitions from high school to post-secondary education and career opportunities.
Key Responsibilities- Recruit and enroll students in college and career programs, ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement retention programs to support student success, including partnerships with local schools, community agencies, and businesses.
- Provide timely and relevant information to stakeholders, facilitating decision-making and implementing resulting directives.
- Offer direct services to students through counseling and advisement, research, and coordination of culturally enriching experiences.
- Maintain the highest standards of ethical behavior, serving as a model of professional leadership and confidentiality.
- Compile and report information to meet grant regulations and college requirements, improving program outcomes.
- Assist with marketing materials, outreach methods, and website maintenance to promote the program.
- Work assigned schedule, exhibit regular attendance, and work overtime as required to meet workload demands.
- Follow recordkeeping procedures, managing department records in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and standards.
- Develop workshops, career development presentations, and cultural programming for program participants.
- Prepare and provide post-activity evaluation data, scheduled and special reports as required.
- Assist in overseeing the development of local project materials and marketing pieces for Marion Technical College and Career.
- Conduct program evaluations and revise goals as necessary.
- Submit monthly reports to Marion Technical College, Marion City Schools, and Harding College.
- Work with Marion Technical College and Harding staff to develop and implement all aspects of local marketing efforts and recruiting efforts.
- Recruit students interested in Pathways and CCP.
- Maintain community and school contacts that work with special populations students.
- Conduct presentations and networks with school district personnel as needed.
- Educate and involve the local community in College and Career opportunities.
- Presents to local community groups and others as related to and appropriate for the program.
- Assist in coordinating student services, workshops, seminars, and summer programs for students.
- Establish strong working relationships with local students and families, conducting parent information meetings.
- Assist in conducting student needs assessments and facilitating services tailored to meet individual student needs.
- Develop, conduct, and facilitate local workshops on career exploration, college preparation, and exploration, college selection, financial aid application processes, and ACT preparation.
- Help students locate and prepare for scholarship opportunities.
- Work with local school counselors to encourage enrollment in concurrent courses and involvement in collegiate and career exploration activities.
- Monitor FAFSA completion for all high school students.
- Track post-secondary plans for all students the summer between their senior year of high school and their transition.
- Attend faculty and staff meetings, school open house, College Information Night, and Financial Aid Night, and other meetings as necessary.
- Assist with college and career preparations for students, such as state and district testing, graduation planning, and pathways development.
An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework, and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Minimum preferred qualifications for this position are a Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a closely related field, with experience in advising, counseling, and working with disadvantaged students.
Knowledge of management principles and practices, adolescent development, learning styles, career interest inventories, college admissions requirements, secondary education curricula, student services issues, college student development, and advising techniques, as well as computer software packages required.
Ability to work with a diverse population, including parents, students, young adults, college staff, and representatives from community agencies and organizations. Coordinate projects, manage crisis situations, prioritize multiple tasks, and maintain confidential and sensitive information.
Skill in problem-solving, verbal and written communications, active listening, collaborating with other departments, and operating a computer and other general office equipment. Excellent customer service skills and experience in coordinating special events.
