Position SummaryWe are currently seeking a Registered Nurse to oversee intricate clinical operations within a facility responsible for individuals detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Registered Nurses in this setting work collaboratively to provide a range of care including ambulatory, emergency, mental health, and infirmary services. Key responsibilities include conducting intake screenings and physical examinations to identify conditions that require further referral or treatment, managing common acute issues in accordance with nursing guidelines, performing nursing rounds for patients in infirmary care and segregated housing, and coordinating activities during assigned shifts.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver direct patient care within the defined Scope of Practice, adhering to current accepted practices, licensure, certification, and competencies.
- Conduct sick calls, evaluating and addressing acute health issues using established nursing protocols, and refer patients to advanced practice providers, physicians, behavioral health providers, or dentists as necessary.
- Perform comprehensive physical examinations utilizing established tools to gather both subjective and objective data, and refer patients to appropriate medical, dental, or behavioral health providers as needed.
- Provide clinical oversight to Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel as assigned.
- Administer medications as prescribed, utilizing various routes including oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous, topical, and other methods.
- Conduct prescreening and intake assessments for newly arrived patients, employing established tools to gather relevant data and referring any abnormal findings to the appropriate medical, dental, or behavioral health providers.
- Perform various treatments such as wound care, vital sign assessments, and electrocardiograms as ordered by medical providers.
- Collect laboratory specimens and perform point-of-care testing or prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, taking appropriate actions based on received lab results.
- Respond to medical emergencies, providing immediate care to stabilize patients and prevent further deterioration, and facilitate transfers to the appropriate level of care.
- May be required to engage in involuntary, court-ordered care as necessary.
- Possess a current, full, and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice or a compact state that permits practice in the designated state.
- This position does not necessitate privileging by IHSC.
- Maintain BLS for Healthcare Providers certification through the American Heart Association.
- Preferred certifications include Certified Correctional Health Professional, Certified Correctional Health Professional Registered Nurse, or Certified Corrections Nurse, though not required.
