Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Quality Assurance Inspector is accountable for the thorough examination of incoming and internally produced components. This role requires expertise in setting up and utilizing Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), MicroVu systems, hand tools, and inspection plates for evaluating parts. The inspector will also support the production floor with initial piece approvals, ongoing inspections, final assessments, and incoming quality checks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Possess a solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and effectively use inspection tools such as micrometers, dial indicators, height gauges, pin gauges, and gauge blocks.
  • Assist in the development and revision of inspection protocols, procedures, and checklists.
  • Exhibit proficiency in setting up and measuring products using CMM, vision systems, and various hand tools.
  • Coordinate the calibration of testing equipment and fixtures.
  • Implement and uphold quality standards and requirements (ISO 9001:2015) throughout the product development and manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain comprehensive quality records and documentation in alignment with the quality manual and specific customer requirements.
  • Conduct inspections in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform visual, in-process, and final dimensional inspections on tightly toleranced materials, components, and subassemblies within production areas.
  • Carry out visual inspections and basic dimensional assessments of incoming materials.
  • Document any non-conformances related to materials, components, or processes.
  • Review supplier documentation to verify compliance with engineering inspection criteria.
  • Execute detailed inspections on both electrical and mechanical components at the individual part and sub-assembly levels.
  • Utilize ERP systems effectively and demonstrate computer literacy with the ability to learn new software.
  • Adhere to departmental ISO 9001 Quality Procedures and Policies.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and reports.
  • Participate in internal quality audits.
  • Promote and implement quality standards, inspection methodologies, and quality documentation.
  • Engage with supplier quality representatives to address quality assurance issues and ensure effective corrective actions are taken.
  • Serve as the primary quality assurance resource for all manufacturing concerns related to product quality from incoming inspection through to final product evaluation.
  • Log daily work hours by project/job code as necessary.
  • Strive towards achieving 100% On-Time Delivery and 100% Quality.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to receive guidance and coordinate work activities.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the work area and other facility locations as required, following 5S principles.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to enhance departmental or company performance.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma with 2 to 4 years of experience in parts inspection within a manufacturing setting.
  • Moderate familiarity with ISO 9001:2015, AS9100, or ISO 13485 standards.
  • Experience with Epicor (ERP) is preferred.
  • Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.).
  • A history of increasing responsibility is advantageous.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend frequently.
  • Occasionally exert 20 to 50 pounds of force, frequently exert 10 to 25 pounds, and constantly exert up to 10 pounds to move objects.
  • Work with hand and machine tools, requiring visual acuity and hand/eye coordination.
  • Exposure to loud manufacturing equipment sounds and odors.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time position requiring 40+ hours per week. Standard operating hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with potential shift work from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Overtime and weekend work may be necessary due to production demands or customer deadlines. Shift start and end times may vary.
